bkCAMUR Home carries textiles from two regions that are constantly muddled together in the resale market: Anatolia, and Central Asia. They are not the same tradition, they are not made the same way, and we think you deserve to be told which is which.
From Türkiye come the rugs and the flatweaves — hand-spun wool, natural dyes, woven on village looms and walked on for decades before we found them. From Uzbekistan comes suzani: silk-thread embroidery on a cotton ground, stitched for dowries rather than for sale. A kilim and a suzani can sit beautifully in the same room, but calling one by the other's name does a disservice to both the maker and the buyer.
There is no wholesaler in the middle. Buying trips mean markets, back rooms and dealers we have known for years, going through stacks by hand. Most of what we look at we leave behind: worn past saving, over-restored, or simply not good enough to put our name to.
What we do bring back gets photographed as it is. If a kilim has an old repair, a faded side, or a seam where the weaver joined two loom widths, that is in the listing and in the photographs. These are secondhand textiles with a life behind them, and the wear is not a defect to be hidden — it is most of the reason they look the way they do.
Almost everything we sell exists once. A pillow cover is cut from a specific rug, and that rug yields what it yields — often a single sound panel, sometimes three. When a listing sells there is no reorder and no second run. It is the least convenient way to run a shop and the only one that makes sense for what we carry.
It also means the collection on this site is small on purpose and turns over completely. What you see is genuinely what remains, synced from our Etsy shop every day.
We are based in Philadelphia, and a good deal of what we do happens face to face — pop-up markets, design fairs, and customers who want to see a piece in daylight before committing. The photograph at the top of this page is one of those market days.
